Ecchymoses occur due to local haemorrhages with red blood cell (RBC) extravasation into soft tissues. It can develop after a trauma, a surgical procedure, a cosmetic procedure or even spontaneously, especially in patients taking anticoagulant drugs or with coagulation alterations.
