I am grateful to Drs. William, McKain and Stephenson for their positive comment and approval to the memory-ring method. I agree with them on the technical point they raised concerning the use of this method in cases where the internal orifice is not wide. This method is indeed aimed to repair hernias with a weakness of the posterior wall, i.e. Nyhus Types IIIa, IIIb and IV. Personally in most cases of Type II hernias, which generally affect young people, in accordance with Nyhus recommendation [1], I do not use a patch, as the possible occurrence of a recurrence three or four decades later should be balanced with the possible drawbacks of the prosthesis. …
