Background
Phosphenes, flashes of light, are a visual phenomenon experienced by patients with ophthalmological disease and normal individuals.
Case report
We report here a 68-year-old woman in whom phosphenes appeared in the left visual field due to compression of the right optic nerve by an aneurysm of the anterior communicating artery.
Results
The symptom decreased dramatically after clipping of the aneurysm.
Conclusion
Phosphenes may be an important early sign of vascular compression neuropathy of the optic nerve.
