We read with interest the paper by Sauerland et al. [
6] reporting the guidelines of the European Association for Endoscopic Surgery (EAES) for the role of laparoscopy in abdominal emergencies, and we have been concerned with their statements in relation to appendicitis. Two aspects of their recommendations deserve critical comments. First, the authors state that when findings are suggestive of acute appendicitis, patients should undergo diagnostic laparoscopy.
