Excerpt

The editors of Surgical Endoscopy recently decided to focus on the New Technology section as a place where important emerging technology can be reviewed, evaluated, and disseminated. The reasons are manifold:
1
In the age of high technology and supersonic information exchange, it is difficult for each of us to track all the surgical novelties in a thorough, organized, and evaluative manner.

2
As endoscopic surgeons, tools are more important to our “trade” than to most practitioners. We are technology driven and technology dependent. Technology can make us better surgeons, so we are eager to embrace the new toys that have the potential to upgrade our skills and improve our outcomes.

3
There is a plethora of journals, magazines, e-mail list servers, Web pages, and chat rooms, but time does not allow us to delve into all of them. A section devoted to summarizing and evaluating technology will help us keep up-to-date while conserving precious time.
