Effect of high-intensity aerobic exercise on aerobic fitness and HbA1c in patients with type 2 diabetes

Stoa et al. (2017) compared the effects of 12-week high-intensity aerobic interval training (HAIT) and the same period of moderate-intensity training (MIT) on aerobic fitness and hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). The authors concluded that HAIT was more effective than MIT to improve aerobic fitness and reduce HbA1c. In addition, there was a significant inverse relationship between change in VO2max and change in HbA1c by compiling HAIT and MIT (correlation coefficient = −0.52, n = 32). I have some concerns about their study. …
