Although the risk of postoperative complications after glaucoma surgery remains higher than most would desire, an optimal outcome may still be achieved when appropriate measures are undertaken. Indeed, as most glaucoma surgeons are probably aware, much of the success of a filtering operation is dependent on expert patient management in the postoperative period. This view is supported by data from the Tube Versus Trabeculectomy study which revealed that most early postoperative complications were transient in nature with minimal effect on final outcome when managed appropriately. …
