The Pathophysiological Basis and Surgical Management of Ranula are Established

The article by Kokong et al. [1] is one of many published on ranula, the pathophysiology and management of which have been established following experimental and clinical research that started towards the end of the nineteenth century and had been reviewed in 2010 in the largest meta-analysis of the literature on this topic, which analysed the results of 1566 operations [2]. Nevertheless, ranula is still misunderstood [3], in spite of an extensive investigation by Samant et al. [4] that specifically dealt with this misunderstanding and included 81 cases of plunging ranula that were treated successfully by transoral excision of the sublingual gland and evacuation of the ranula contents. …
