How to diagnose acute appendicitis is still a subject of controversy. The current trend is toward increasing use of diagnostic imaging and laparoscopy. However, these techniques are expensive, have limited availability, and suffer from limitations such as potentially harmful ionizing radiation (computed tomography), examiner dependent efficacy (ultrasonography), and technique-associated morbidity (diagnostic laparoscopy). …
