Surgical management of intestinal malrotation in adults

Although it is an uncommon disease of the adult, much has been said about intestinal malrotation, and many retrospective trials and case reports have been published. The study by Dr. Tao Fu et al. (DOI:10.​1007/​s00268-007-9018-2 ), which represents a retrospective analysis of 12 cases of intestinal malrotation, serves to remind us about this uncommon condition, but it does not shed any new light on the established diagnostic and therapeutic options. The high accuracy of upper gastrointestinal barium follow-through for radiological diagnosis has been confirmed by several studies [1, 2]. Most authors consider Ladd’s procedure to be an effective therapy leading to complete resolution of symptoms in 89% [3] and at least to substantial improvement in more than 70% of patients [4]. …
