This study by Tzanakis et al. [1] (DOI: 10.1007/s00268-005-7853-6) on the diagnosis of acute appendicitis is well designed. A new diagnostic score is developed on a training-set and tested prospectively on a separate test-set. The radiologist is blinded, the score developed by multivariate statistical techniques, and the analysis performed and presented adequately. In addition, the authors have tested several published diagnostic scores [2] and have compared the results to the newly proposed scoring system. …
