Stroke is an important paediatric illness and is one of the top ten causes of childhood death [
1]. At least two-thirds of children affected by ischaemic stroke have residual impairments spanning many domains of function and up to a fifth of them have a recurrence. However, despite this there is a common misconception that childhood stroke is a rare and trivial illness. Epidemiological studies have established that as many children are affected by stroke as by brain tumour. However, the collaborative networks established for the study and treatment of paediatric malignancies are only now evolving in the field of childhood stroke. …
