Dear Sir, It was recently established by Elefteriou and colleagues [1] in mice that at the level of the central nervous system leptin-regulated neural pathways play a role in the control of bone remodeling and may contribute to bone loss. Conversely, it was suggested that hypothalamic neurones expressing CART (cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript) may counter leptin-induced bone resorption [1]. However, these data obtained from mice apparently contradict the general perception that obese women with high circulating leptin have high bone mineral density (BMD). …
