Pelvic surgeons have long recognized the risk of iatrogenic dyspareunia following reconstructive vaginal surgery. But now, a new clinical entity has appeared—partner dyspareunia—or shall we call it “hispareunia”. This phenomenon is seen in entirely asymptomatic women who seek treatment because their male partner has experienced surprising, sudden, and sometimes excruciating pain during intercourse. Pelvic examination typically reveals an exposed mesh in the vagina—sometimes with a relatively sharp edge. Partners have reported penile laceration and bleeding following intercourse. …
