Sir: We are grateful to Drs. Dongelmans and Schultz for their comments on our study. Indeed, the use of nondepolarizing neuromuscular blockers for intubation was associated with a 3.4-fold increase in late-onset ventilator-associated pneumonia occurrence. In regard to this result, our conclusion stated that the use of neuromuscular blockers was not associated with the risk of late-onset ventilator-associated pneumonia, and the type of neuromuscular blockers for intubation should be evaluated in future studies. From this point of view it must be admitted that this conclusion is cautious. …
