Induced hypothermia in traumatic brain injury: considering the conflicting results of meta-analyses and moving forward

A few months ago Intensive Care Medicine published a systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature dealing with the use of induced hypothermia in traumatic brain injury (TBI). In this review Henderson et al. [1] analyzed the results of eight studies meeting predefined criteria for randomized controlled trials (RCTs). They concluded that there is no clear evidence of lower mortality rates in unselected TBI patients treated with induced hypothermia, and at best a marginal benefit in neurological outcome. …
