In their recent paper, Hjorthøj and colleagues [
1] investigated the association between suicide and various levels of psychiatric treatment, with the intent to explore whether level of psychiatric treatment is an indicator of missed opportunities for suicide prevention. Using data from nationwide Danish registers, the authors reported a gradient for increased risk of suicide with each increasing level of psychiatric treatment. We commend the authors for addressing this timely topic. Suicide prevention is an important public health concern that has gained increasing media attention. This study is among the few that have sought to answer this question using high quality national level data [
