Unusual Patient with Multiple Sclerosis and Shunt-Responsive Normal-Pressure Hydrocephalus

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic, disabling inflammatory and demyelinating disease of the central nervous system (CNS) and ventriculomegaly secondary to white matter (WM) atrophy may be seen in long-standing MS cases [1, 2]. To the best of knowledge of the authors a patient with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) and MS has not been reported in the literature. This article reports the case of an MS patient with NPH-like magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings in routine and phase contrast MRI (PC-MRI) and resolution of symptoms attributable to NPH after shunt placement. The aim of the report is to emphasize the possible relationship between NPH and MS. …
