In the interests of improving patient safety and quality of care, physicians have, in recent years, been encouraged to embrace reflective practices that include receiving and responding to feedback on aspects of performance. An extensive body of literature provides education, advice, and some evidence on what to measure, including how and how often to do so.
1 Much debated is how best to provide these data to physicians in a way that will be received as being constructive, non-punitive, and most likely to engage them in using the information to change practices that may improve patients’ experiences and outcomes.
