Is Surgical Intervention for Cystic Neoplasms of the Pancreas Being Underutilized?

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is not discriminating. A number of very well known individuals have recently succumbed to this deadly cancer, e.g., to name a few: Myles Brand, Richard Crenna, Dizzy Gillespie, Michael Landon, Luciano Pavarotti, Donna Reed, Melvin Simon and Patrick Swayze. Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is almost universally fatal, so “survivors” are scarce and most so-called survivors ultimately succumb eventually to the disease (Fig. 1).
