Excerpt

Amyand’s hernia is a rare condition in which the appendix herniates into the inguinal canal. It can vary in severity from a normal appendix within a reducible inguinal hernia to appendicitis with peritonitis. We encountered a case of Amyand’s hernia with appendicitis, which we managed in a novel fashion with a combined laparoscopic and open approach and mesh repair. We have also conducted a literature review of the condition and describe the history, epidemiology, pathophysiology, and findings of other authors. …
