Bisphosphonates have been widely used for the treatment of osteoporosis and have proven efficacy in reducing the risk of vertebral and hip fracture [1, 2]. Although long-term use of bisphosphonates confirms their safety, questions regarding potential adverse effects due to excessive inhibition of bone remodeling still remain, and there have been recent reports suggesting a strong potential link between prolonged bisphosphonate therapy and atypical fractures of the femur [311]. …
