Innate and acquired immunity in psoriasis

Recently, we read the manuscript by Langewouters et al. [3] on prevailing lymphocyte subsets in the peripheral blood of patients with moderate-to-severe (PASI-score ≥ 12) versus mild (PASI-score < 12) plaque psoriasis. The authors found a significant upregulation of CD4+, CD8+, CD45RO+ and CD45RA+ lymphocyte subsets as well as CD94+ and CD161+ NK-T cells. In the conclusion, the authors highlight the importance of further research in order to elucidate the dynamics of compartmentalization of T lymphocyte subsets belonging to either the acquired or the innate immunity system in psoriasis [3]. …
