The therapy for vascular disease is rooted in empiricism. However, the previous two decades has seen a tidal wave of interest in the recognition that modern therapy demands proof of efficacy. The title of this text emphasizes its goal: to focus on evidence that supports the current management of vascular pathology. The concept of evidence-based medicine has been popularized to the extent where empiric observation has almost become a derogatory term. The thoughtful physician, however, recognizes that these approaches are not mutually exclusive but naturally sequential in the evolution of knowledge. …
