A Mass Lesion of the Cerebellopontine Angle in a Hearing-Impaired Patient

A 63-year-old woman received a left-sided cochlear implant for unilateral hearing loss 5 years ago. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed at that time did not show any pathological changes. After an initial improvement the patient developed progressive deterioration of hearing function accompanied by a left-sided facial paresis. The cochlear implant was surgically removed 2 months prior to admission. In addition the patient had been diagnosed with breast cancer which had been treated by surgery and radiation therapy. The patient was currently in full remission. …
