Good knowledge of anatomy is the most important pre-requisite for performing good surgery. Few textbooks of anatomy have been, however, written by orthopaedic surgeons and are intended for them. In December 2003, Professor Philippe Neyret (who was then president of the Scientific committee of ESSKA 2000) arranged a weekend meeting in Lyon, France with a number of invited speakers to discuss all aspects of knee anatomy as seen through the eyes of operating surgeons. Some of these presentations have been edited by Professor Andrew Amis in London, UK and KSSTA is happy to be able to publish these eight papers. To have a series of up-to-date anatomical papers written for and by orthopaedic surgeons and sports surgeons for us in ESSKA 2000 is probably unique. …
