We read with great interest the recently published quality improvement standards of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR) on the on percutaneous ablation in renal cell carcinoma (RCC) [
1] that were published three years after the CIRSE guidelines on the same topic [
2]. In that period, also guidelines of the American Society of Clinical Oncology were published [
3], stating that “percutaneous thermal ablation should be considered an option if complete ablation can reliably be achieved” and also the 2019 version of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network (NCCN) guidelines [
4] where thermal ablation was given priority over active surveillance as a management option for small renal masses. …
