Only some individuals with ocular hypertension ultimately will develop the visual field abnormalities or optic neuropathy characteristic of primary open-angle glaucoma. In daily clinical practice, physicians often need to determine whether an individual patient with ocular hypertension should be treated or monitored at regular intervals to detect progression. An enhanced understanding of risk factors that contribute to the progression of ocular hypertension can aid in therapeutic decision-making. …
