Recent studies of injection drug users (IDUs) in Puerto Rico indicate widespread use of xylazine, also known as horse anesthesia (a veterinary analgesic sedative) mixed with heroin and cocaine. Research shows that xylazine contributes to more severe symptoms of withdrawal.
