Fiberoptic bronchoscopy (FOB) is widely used in intensive care unit practice for percutaneous tracheostomy, for diagnostic evaluation and for toilet of the tracheobronchial tree. The risk of hypoventilation, and even life-threatening airway obstruction due to use of FOB is known.
