Increased cholecystectomy rate in the laparoscopic era: a study of the potential causative factors

We have read with great interest the recent article by Mallon et al. [4] questioning the reason for the increase in the cholecystectomy rate. We agree that this probably is multifactorial. The ratio of risk to benefit for cholecystectomy as perceived by surgeons has changed, and this could be a major factor. …
