Heparin-induced thrombocytopenia suspected because of repeated hemofiltration filter clotting

Diagnosis of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia (HIT) requires a fall of platelet count over a typical onset and is confirmed by the presence of HIT antibodies [12]. HIT during continuous veno-venous hemofiltration (CVVH) has already been reported [3]. We report two consecutive cases in which HIT was diagnosed during CVVH because of clotting of hemofiltration filters without the typical fall in platelet count. …
