Monodermal teratomas are most commonly differentiated as struma ovarii or carcinoid tumor. Struma ovarii is defined as ovarian teratoma composed predominantly (>50 %) of thyroid-type tissue [
1], representing less than 3 % of all teratomas [
2]. Benign ovarian teratomas contain thyroid tissue in less than 15 %, but with thyroid function or a malignant thyroid component are also categorized as struma ovarii [
