This supplement of Osteoporosis International is a Festschrift written to honor our beloved friend and colleague who left us on July 23, 2008. There are no words that embrace the magnitude of this loss. We are in strange ways protected by the incomprehensibility of this loss. Pierre was an extraordinary man who loved life and was larger than it, who made a room electric. During his 18 months’ struggle with illness, he always ended his emails with “Life is a gift - enjoy it.” While mourning his loss continues, he will always answer us when we speak to him and the vulnerable stars in his eyes will always glisten, his smile will welcome us. All we can do is listen to him and take heed of his message, enjoy life and enjoy each other. In that way, we remember him and give thanks for our short time with him. …
