The introduction of phacoemulsification in the 1990s made combined cataract surgery and vitrectomy a practical procedure. Small and secure corneal incisions, increased anterior chamber stability, and implantation of the intraocular lens (IOL) in a stable capsular bag improved the safety and visual outcomes of phacovitrectomy [
