A correct and precise diagnosis is of utmost importance for the optimal management of patients. For over a century, pathologists have been considered as bearers of the gold standard of classification and diagnosis of tumors. Meanwhile, routine histopathological diagnosis is not always as robust as one might hope. This is partly caused by problems with tissue quantity (e.g., sampling resulting in a suboptimal or even false diagnosis) and tissue quality. Also, definitions for typing and grading of tumors are somewhat subjective and may lead to substantial inter- and intra-observer variability.
