A 5-year-old white male with no significant past medical history presented with urinary retention. Computed tomographic (CT) scan showed an intrapelvic mass, 7.1 × 5.9 × 4.7 cm, lying posterior and inferior to the bladder. Needle biopsy of the mass showed a cellular tumor with a heterogeneous cell population consisting of small round blue cells, rhabdomyoblasts with long eosinophilic cytoplasmic tails, and occasional spindle cells in a myxoid background. This appearance, along with strongly positive immunostaining for muscle-specific actin, desmin, and Myo D is consistent with the diagnosis of embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma. …
