People who are homeless are a marginalized population who frequently present to hospital in advanced disease states with serious and potentially life-threatening illness. We reviewed the literature on critical illness in homeless persons by systematically searching Medline, HealthStar, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases from inception to July 2012 without language restriction (see Electronic Supplementary Material for search strategy). We reviewed, in duplicate using standardized forms, potentially relevant studies as well as bibliographies of included studies. …
