Public health crises often bring to the forefront long-standing injustices, and the COVID-19 pandemic is no exception. We are seeing evidence of disparate impacts for people that have long faced barriers to health [15]. Incarcerated individuals are one such group, leading criminal justice reform advocates and public health experts to sound the alarm for reforms that many have been calling for to advance racial justice and health equity for decades. While we are not out of the woods yet, we ought to press for a long-term, bold transformation of our criminal-legal system that prioritizes community health and equity. …
