Meniscus damage is associated with meniscus extrusion and with an increased risk of incident knee osteoarthritis [13]. Meniscus extrusion is associated with fast structural progression of knee osteoarthritis, potentially because of a peripheral shift of the meniscus and a greater exposure of tibial cartilage, causing less mechanical protection by the meniscus [4, 5]. …
