Patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) have lower rates of receiving postpartum contraception, especially highly effective methods, than patients without OUD (Krans et al.
2018). Pregnant patients with a consistent plan for a postpartum contraceptive method (PCM) between prenatal care and hospital discharge after delivery are more likely to choose highly effective methods of contraception, although it is unclear whether this holds true for patients with OUD (Bhide et al.
