This study used a questionnaire to investigate current best-practice for dysphagia screening in adult patients with tracheostomy (sic) tubes in the UK. A total of 221 questionnaires were completed by participants who worked in settings with formal swallow screens (45 %) or in a variety of settings relying on informal links with multi-disciplinary teams (55 %). Only 25 % of questionnaire respondents reported that their current system was effective in identifying patients at-risk for swallowing problems. Current practice in the UK for screening patients with a tracheostomy (tube) for swallowing problems is varied, sub-optimal, and not in-line with current national recommendations. …
