Abstract

Steatocystoma multiplex, also known as sebocystomatosis or epidermal polycystic disease, is a disorder of the pilosebaceous unit characterised by multiple dermal cysts containing sebum. These cysts are most commonly observed on the scalp, trunk and proximal extremities but can occur anywhere, including the scrotum. Clinically, it is characterised by multiple small, soft, movable, yellowish to skin-coloured cystic dermal papules and nodules. We report a case of a 60-year-old male with steatocystoma multiplex of the scrotum. Ultrasound of the scrotum revealed that cysts were confined to the skin. Biopsy was inconclusive and revealed a benign pathology. A review of literature shows that it is an extremely rare clinical entity and only a handful of cases are reported to date. We report a case of steatocystoma multiplex of the scrotum with relevant discussion on the management of the same from a surgeon’s perspective, which includes mini-incisions of the cyst followed by expression of cyst contents.
