It has been five years since the last edition of Obstetric Anesthesia Principles and Practice was released. In the interim, there has been significant change in obstetric anesthesia practice, with an emphasis on ultrasound for regional anesthesia, noninvasive technologies for hemodynamic monitoring, and new labour analgesia modalities for delivery.
