Hypoxia has been associated with biologically aggressive tumors, possibly through upregulation of hypoxia-inducible genes. The authors recently identified two hypoxia identifiable genes, carbonic anhydrase (CA) CA IX and CA XII, in epithelial tumor cell lines.
