Cancer immunology and immunotherapy has now become such an established part of mainstream immunology that it is hard to remember when tumour immunologists were considered to be working in an area regarded as not quite ‘proper’. This was amply illustrated at this year’s annual congress of the British Society for Immunology (BSI) in Harrogate, UK, 2–5 December 2003. Although not specifically focused on tumour immunology, many excellent presentations dealt with subjects central to this topic. …
