Breast cancer, the most common malignancy affecting women, is the second leading cause of death among women in the United States.
1 Therefore, it is important to analyze the value of the surgical treatment options available currently. Cost-utility analysis (CUA) is a form of cost-effective analysis, and utility scores provide a measure of a health state outcome to quantify the impact on a patient’s quality of life across different interventions.
2 Reviews are available in the literature for various cancer health states, but no known systematic review of the current literature exists for breast surgical health states. Thus, a compiled repository can serve to guide decision making for patients undergoing breast surgery and also to generate better health-related policies to increase value in health care. …
