Currently, many biobanks have been established to collect tumor tissues worldwide. It is noted the specimen’s quality, as the core of tissue banks, is closely related to preanalytical variables.
1 The effects of preanalytical variables on quality of tumor tissues may be dependent on tissue type. So far as we know, the quality of tumor tissues after surgical resection has not been well documented. Tumor cell content and RNA integrity number (RIN) is widely accepted as indicators of tissue quality. Therefore, a comprehensive investigation on tumor cell content and RNA integrity of surgical tumor tissues is urgently needed, especially when tumor tissues are surgically excised and processed in a uniform standard operation procedure. Accordingly, we conducted a study using 896 cases of tumor tissues from 12 organs to reveal the quality characteristics after their surgical excision. It provides valuable data for a better collection and utilization of tumor tissues. …
