Excerpt

Esophagectomy is a historically morbid procedure with a high complication rate. Minimally invasive techniques utilizing a wide variety of surgical approaches have been introduced to reduce perioperative morbidity and mortality, improve quality of life, and reduce hospital length of stay.1 Comparative studies and randomized trials have demonstrated improvement in short-term outcomes with minimally invasive esophagectomy compared with open approaches.2,3
