Recently, an increasing number of studies have reported that systemic inflammatory responses and nutritional status have indicated long-term outcome in various malignancies.

In esophageal cancer, although many authors reported that inflammatory and nutritional markers such as neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR), C-reactive protein (CRP) to albumin (Alb) ratio (CAR), and systemic immune-inflammatory index (SII) had good prognostic value, the best predictor for long-term outcome after potentially curative esophagectomy remains controversial.
,
Furthermore, which factor constituting these markers has the most prognostic value remains unclear. Therefore, our study
focused on the prognostic value of various preoperative systemic immuno-inflammatory markers, including NLR, PLR, CAR, and SII, for esophageal cancer. We indicated which factor constituting these markers, such as the number of neutrophil, platelet, lymphocyte, and serum levels of CRP and Alb, had the most prognostic value. In addition, we disclosed the relationships between PLR and antiplatelet (anticoagulant) therapies. …
